Why do I need to get my chimney swept?
Regular sweeping helps to prevent chimney fires and reduces the risk of dangerous emissions by removing soot and obstructions such as birds’ nests from coal, wood, oil and gas-fired systems.
Keeping your chimneys and flues clean will also maintain optimal functionality and efficiency for your property.

FAQs
How often should I get my chimney swept?
It really does depend on the type of fire and frequency of use. As a guide, oil, gas and smokeless coal fires should be swept once a year. Stove and flue installers recommend that bituminous/coal fires are swept quarterly.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Before I arrive it is essential your fireplace or stove is unmade and has cooled down. Best practice is to not fire it up for at least 12 hours before arrival. Please remove any breakable items and furniture away from the fireplace, leaving at least 2 metres of space if possible.
What areas do your chimney sweeping services cover?
Being based in Grazeley near Reading, the main areas I cover are South Berkshire, Hampshire and the surroundings. If you’re not sure just drop me a line and I will be happy to confirm. Contact me
How long does it take?
It ordinarily takes roughly an hour to sweep a chimney thoroughly. This includes minor tasks such as stove rope reattachment and stove glass cleaning. It may take longer if there are problems or blockages.
Why do I need to have my chimney swept?
Regular and careful sweeping prolongs the life of your flue and appliance, it also improves efficiency and reduces emissions. Without sweeping, soot and/or tar build up can increase the risk of a chimney fire and cause dangerous carbon monoxide gas to enter your property. Some insurance companies now require proof of chimney sweeping, especially for thatched properties, which also require regular flue inspections using CCTV equipment.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes, we are certified members of the Guild of Master Sweeps. We are also fully insured with NFU, providing public liability insurance for up to £2.5 million, as well as professional indemnity insurance.
